Enugu: Bribery allegations trail LG poll
Enugu chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has uncovered plans by some of its members to work for the opposition Peoples Democractic Party (PDP), in the November 4, 2017 local government election in the state.
APC has threatened to deal with any member of the party who works secretly for the PDP in the state.
APC Vice Chairman, Enugu East senatorial
district, Chief Anike Nwoga, issued the threat, yesterday, in company
with the state Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, at a press conference held at
the party’s state secretariat.
Nwoga specifically accused the state
party Women Leader, Queen Nwankwo of approaching Enugu State Deputy
Governor, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, who is of the PDP, to work for her party.
He also accused Nwankwo and the state
deputy chairman of the party, Mr Adolphus Ude of collecting Pathfinder
Sports Utility Vehicles from a PDP chieftain in Enugu West senatorial
district, as offers to work for the PDP.
But, when contacted on telephone, Ude and
Nwankwo dismissed Nwoga’s claims. They said he has a penchant to lie,
which they claimed has affected his character.
Said Nwankwo: “I started hearing of Anike Nwoga when I was in primary school; he has this habit of running people down.
“He is just a zonal vice chairman for
Enugu East and I am not from that senatorial zone. He is just lying that
I collected Pathfinder from somebody. Check his records, he is not
straight forward, he lies a lot.”
Ude also said Nwoga, as zonal vice
chairman, does not have a functional office at the party’s secretariat,
and added that the same Nwoga was the same person who signed Nwoye’s
suspension letter on July 3, 2017.
Regardless, Nwoga insisted that Nwoye
remains the elected chairman of the party in the state, and that there
was nothing like an acting chairman’s position, which Ude is claiming to
occupy.
He disclosed that Ude was suspended and given seven days to defend himself but failed to do so.
Nwoga said at the expiration of the seven days, he was sacked from the party.
According to Nwoga, nothing would make
the party bring back Ude to its fold as he (Nwoga) claimed that he (Ude)
is one of those destabilising the APC in Enugu state.
“It is either you are in APC or PDP; you can’t be in APC and be working for the PDP.
“In the next press conference, I will
expose all the names of our leaders who are working for the PDP; enough
is enough. We won’t allow this to continue,” said Nwoga.
Some members of the State Working
Committee of the party loyal to Ude had suspended Nwoye while the
chairman and other party leaders loyal to him, in turn, suspended Ude.
